Artist & Writer Biography/CV



Writer and visual artist Megan O'Beirne is the author of "Kilmacurragh: Sourced in the Wild; the moulding of a heritage arboretum" She spent five years researching this art book comprising text and photographs to capture the spirit of the National Botanic Gardens, Kilmacurragh, a precious and little-known national treasure. Part-funded by Artlinks, it was published in 2015 by Systems Publishing and is available in all good bookshops in Ireland and online. O'Beirne has written for Sunday Miscellany at Radio Éireann and is a regular contributor of articles and photographs to Crann Magazine, Ireland's voluntary tree organisation.
As well as writing, O'Beirne's practice includes painting, photography and print. She has exhibited widely and her work is represented in national (OPW) and county (Wexford) collections. She has been a recipient of Arts Council bursaries, and artist residencies include Banff, Canada, and Reykjavik, Iceland.

Megan O’Beirne is a graduate of University College, Dublin (M.A. H. Dip) and DLIADT (Fine Arts).   She lives and has her studio in Gorey, Co. Wexford. She has had solo photographic exhibitions in Italy, Treviso (2002) and Trieste (2004) on the occasion of the Joycean commemorative celebrations at the University there, and in The James Joyce Centre, Dublin, 2004-5. Her Joycean photographs were licensed to the National Library in 2004/5.She has also had solo photographic exhibitions in Wexford, Dublin and Birr in 2007, ’08 and has participated in group exhibitions in Banff, Canada and Reykjavik, Iceland in 2007. She was the recipient of an Arts Council Travel Award in 2007 and has had residencies in Canada and Iceland. Her current B&W photographic exhibition “Steel Trees – The Future” is on tour to Dublin libraries. Her 2008 visit to Japan will be the subject of her next exhibition.

A co- founder of the art group KUBE (2001-2006) she exhibited her paintings with the group in China and at several Art Centres in Ireland. Her work was selected for Eigse in 2005.
